EUCAP Somalia organized a Maritime Law and Crime Workshop for judges, prosecutors and police officers in Garowe, Puntland State of Somalia, on 13-15 May.
A total of 23 participants (3 women) joined the Workshop, conducted in cooperation with the Puntland Ministry of Justice, Religious Affairs and Rehabilitation, UNSOM, UNDP and the Puntland State University.
Lectures on International and Somali Maritime Law, Human Trafficking and Human Smuggling, Cooperation between police and prosecution, case studies on Investigation and Prosecution of Maritime Crimes, principles of fair trial and EUCAP Somalia’s ongoing activities took place.
The aim of the workshop was to enhance the cooperation between judges, prosecutors and police, and to improve the knowledge of maritime security related national and international legislation.
EUCAP Somalia is a civilian EU mission, under the auspices of the Common Security and Defence Policy, which assists Somalia in strengthening its capacity to ensure maritime security.
