Mogadishu 06 April 2021. It is with great sadness that EUCAP Somalia shares notice of the passing of a Finnish mission member who died in hospital in Nairobi on 21st March 2021. The person had contracted the COVID-19 virus during his duties in Somalia. The deceased was brought home to Finland on a flight that arrived last weekend.
The Mission Member was a civilian crisis management expert seconded by the Crisis Management Centre (CMC) Finland to EUCAP Somalia, as part of support to security sector development in Somalia.
We send our deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues and to the Finnish Government on his passing. May he rest in peace.

The European Union Capacity Building Mission in Somalia (EUCAP Somalia) is a civilian crisis management mission that supports the development of Somali maritime security and wider police capacity. It employs over 110 international experts from 22 contributing countries who work alongside Somali experts in support of security in Somalia.
The Mission has maintained its operations during the COVID-19 pandemic, to ensure continued support to our Somali partners during this challenging time. We continue to adhere to stringent health measures to mitigate against the spread of coronavirus and to safeguard all of our staff and partners.
