EUCAP Somalia participated in the Maritime Security Coordination Committee (MSCC) meeting held in Nairobi, Kenya, on July 9-10 2018.
Over thirty delegates drawn from the Somali Federal Government, Federal Member States and Somaliland together with international donors and agencies implementing Somali projects participated in the meeting.
The EU was represented by EUCAP Somalia and EU Navfor Atalanta.
The meeting aims at the coordination of maritime capacity building under a formula which brings together all participants in a “technical” spirit of cooperation facilitated by a neutral party, is a major step forward.
A range of maritime security threats were discussed, including criminal activity, current pirate activity, weapons smuggling, illegal fishing, terrorism and sanctions breaking activity.
