EUCAP Somalia took part in the Contact Group on Piracy off the Coast of Somalia’s (CGPCS) 20th plenary session which was held in Mauritius from July 5th to 7th 2017.
Several countries and international organizations who have committed to fight and prevent piracy off the coast of Somalia and are part of the CGPCS were present including Somalia, Seychelles, Kenya, Russia Federation, Australia, Denmark, EU, UN, NATO, IGAD, Interpol – among many others.
“Leaving a lasting legacy for the Region” was the motto of this year’s plenary gathering.
EUCAP Somalia’s Head of Operations Chris Reynolds and Senior Maritime Advisor, Rodolphe Agelou, participated in working sessions aimed at coordinating efficiency efforts in the fight against piracy in Somalia and to promote projects for maritime capacity building in the area.
Discussions among stakeholders focused on new or additional actions to be undertaken by the international community in light of the recent piracy incidents in Somalia as well as what efforts should be taken by Somali authorities and the international Community to disrupt onshore networks that support piracy.
