From November 28th to 29th, EUCAP Nestor hosted a Police Professional Development Board (PPDB) Workshop in Mogadishu.
The Police Professional Development Board (PPDB) is tasked with developing, reviewing and evaluating the training curricula of the Somali Police Force. One of the key priorities for the PPDB is the development of a unified programme for the basic training of police recruits – endorsed by the Somali authorities both at the Federal and State level.
Twenty delegates from the Somali States (Puntland, HirShabelle, Jubaland, South West and Galmudug) attended the workshop.
In the spirit of a united International Community and a coordinated and comprehensive approach to security capacity building in Somalia, representatives from United Nations on Drugs and Crime (UNDOC), United Nations Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) and the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), joined the event to support the development of the unified curriculum for new police recruits.
The workshop was opened by the Somali Police Force Deputy Police Commissioner, General Bashir, who stressed the importance of the work of the PPDB and expressed his appreciation for EUCAP Nestor’s efforts in hosting the event, and of the International community in supporting the Somali Police.
“The lively discussions during the workshop on the content of the new training programme underline the significance of a Somali-wide basic curriculum for the Somali Police. A programme which fits the needs and expectations of the Somali people” , said Jasper Ritzema, Senior Police Adviser with EUCAP Nestor.
