Wrapped in orange scarves, symbol of the UN’s Global campaign “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence”, EUCAP Somalia Head of Mission Maria-Cristina Stepanescu and EUTM Somalia’s Commander Matteo Spreafico, joined by Somali and international colleagues, led a symbolic walk on the beach this morning in Mogadishu, on the occasion on Human Rights Day and this year’s closure campaign.
The initiative was organised by EUCAP Somalia together with the “sister Missions” EUTM Somalia and EUNAVFOR Atalanta and reflects the strong commitment of the three EU Missions operating in Somalia towards the respect for human rights as core and founding European values, inspiring all actions in the areas of operation and internationally.
December 10th marks this year the 70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
EUCAP Somalia staff from all Mission’s locations (Mogadishu, Hargeisa, Garowe and Nairobi), were addressed by the Head of Mission about the significance of the Day internationally celebrated today and the campaign against gender-based violence.
Thanking all the EU Missions and personnel who joined the morning symbolic walk, Ms Stepanescu reiterated her personal commitment towards the values of the campaign and Human Rights Day.
